Check out why The World's Richest DJ quit drinking.

Updated: Aug 31, 2022

Scotland born DJ Calvin Harris earned the money to buy his DJ gear as a teenager with jobs like stocking grocery store shelves and long hours at a fish processing factory. He now lives in Los Angeles and raked in 38.5 million in 2019, and has been ranked as the world's richest DJ.

With alcohol being such a normal part of life in Scotland, it was of course normal for Calvin Harris (real name Adam Richard Wiles) to drink at his shows.

Many people don't realize that alcohol is called 'spirits' for a reason.

The origin of the word Alcohol comes from the Arabic. It is pronounced, “al-kuhl.” It means “BODY EATING SPIRIT,” and serves as the origin for the English word “ghoul.” According to Middle Eastern tradition, a ghoul is an evil demon believed to eat human bodies.

The 37 yr old DJ and Producer told the BBC that he quit drinking because he started to see that it was effecting his work in a negative way, "It was clearly affecting what I do," he said, ”My live shows are a million times better now. If you drink, you can't even remember if it's a good show or not — and that's probably for the best, because it would have been rubbish because I'd have been drunk and not making any sense."

It may have been worse then he was wanting people to know, as he said that he would drink as much as two bottles of Jack Daniels a night at one point.

Harris gave it up when he was 24 yrs old and has experienced nothing but explosive success ever since. He joins a growing list of celebrities that have given up the drink.

His willingness to share some of his personal journey has encouraged others to drop the drink.

If you are struggling with alcohol or drugs known that there is hope. If he can do it, anyone can.
