Some of you might be thinking, “A Porn Convention? Jesus would not go to a Porn Convention!” He wouldn't go to participate in their culture, but He would go to reveal His culture.
A little over 4 yrs ago I went to the Los Angeles Porn Convention (AdultCon) with an amazing ministry called JC's Girls. This ministry is primarily women that really have a heart to see women, and men, receive the same freedom and grace that they have with God. JC's Girls have been going to these types of events for years. They pray for the girls and guys and show them the love of God through words and actions while handing out bibles and other gifts.
Someone might think that a "Christian" should avoid that place like it was the black plague. Well, yes, and no. If you have a struggle with pornography or sexual sin (or just don't feel comfortable) then it would be a good idea to not put yourself in a position to fall to the temptation. But if God calls you to go and you're free from that bondage, then go and show the world the real Jesus.
Over 9 yrs ago God set me free from a pornography addiction that lasted well over a decade, and "whom the Son sets free is free indeed." God is good at His job! That addiction is gone, and when God sets you free He also grants you an authority to entire back into that mess and effectively convey the message of the Good News in truth, power, and love.
Here is a full message about our time at the event
For too long I've seen Christians, well meaning and good intended, make it a point to hide from the world. We've heard it said, "bad company corrupts good morals." This can be true, but walking with God in character, freedom, and His power and love will overcome bad morals at any time and in any environment.
Jesus gave us a mandate in Mark 16, "He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." A porn convention, a bar, a bad neighborhood, city council meetings, business meetings, and the list could go on and on would be included in the "all the world" mandate.
During our time at the convention we had a booth set up and visitors would come strolling through making the rounds. As they would stumble into our booth they would ask, "what is JC's Girls, who is JC?"
We would reply, "I'm so glad you asked, JC is Jesus Christ," and conversation would commence. We prayed for too many people to remember. We saw people healed and saved, and we loved people.
The Team
We all know the famous verse in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." We should all know that verse. What other verse reveals God's heart in such a powerful and straight to the point manner?
How many of us know the following verse just as well? John 3:17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." Our job is to go to the broken, the lost, the captives, the hurting, and those that don't know who Jesus is and tell them and show them who He really is.
During our time there our booth was directly across from a booth that a strip club had rented. They had loud music and a stage with a pole set up, and exactly what you would imagine is what was going on.
Going into an environment like that you see everything, it's impossible not to. But when you are there for the right reasons, with the Lord and a team of Believers, you'd be amazed how much of it doesn't effect you.
At one point during the first day there one of the girls got off the pole and walked over to our booth. Jesus Christ's Girls started talking to her. She chatted with them and then made her way over to me and asked if I wanted a free lap dance, I declined. She persisted, I declined again and just as I did God showed me a picture in my mind of her life.

After hearing the words that came through a believer that were from her Father in Heaven she asked, "How did you that?" She walked up to our booth looking to give herself away for free and she left our booth having been loved (not judged), and received prayer and heard from her Father in Heaven. She left with tears in her eyes. All because a group of believers, set free by Grace and empowered by Grace, went into "all the world" to preach the Gospel.
It was a spectacular two days and we saw many miracles.
Fast forward four years.
A couple of weeks ago I received a message through my Recovering Reality Instagram page. My eyes welled up with tears as I read the message. Message below.
This young woman now lives in the same freedom and grace that we do. "...the kindness of God leads you to repentance." (Romans 2:4) Let's not forget the power of planting a seed in someones heart.
The world around us is dark for one reason, and it's not because the devil is winning or that he is more powerful then God.
Colossians chapter 2 tells us, 13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. (NASB)
The world is dark because those who are called the "Light of the World" have yet to go into the darkness and LIGHT IT UP! So let's GO! After all, Go is the first two letters of the Gospel and the first two letters of God.
